Dr. Laura Schelly is a Peoria native and attended Bergan High School, Illinois Central College and Bradley University. She married Phil Jordan, another Bergan graduate, and they have two children. Her son John attends Illinois State University and her daughter Kathryn is attending St. Ambrose University next fall.
Dr. Laura's decision to become a chiropractor followed her father's intervention in 1982. He had diagnosed her broken neck by X-Ray after she had been released from the hospital that day with a "concussion" from a motorbike accident.
"Dad knew right away something wasn't right and took me straight to his office to X-Ray me sitting up. The ER had done it with me lying down, so the break didn't show then."
Of course they returned immediately to the hospital where Laura had a surgical repair of the break. She was there for the next 2 1/2 months healing and had a LOT of time to ponder why she wasn't paralyzed or dead. "Essentially, that was when God told me the path he wanted me to take."
She registered for pre-chiropractic class upon her release, finally graduating with her Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1989.
Dr. Laura states that the 6 years she got to work with her father before his retirement were very educational:
"Oh, my goodness, yes! The things he could tell and show me from 40 years in practice were incredibly valuable. He knew what worked best for so many different conditions. Some techniques he taught me had been learned directly from the pioneering doctors who created them! I learned as much from Dad as I learned in school. No question about it!"
In January of 2015 Dr. Schelly moved to the Holistic Health Center at 4809 N. Sheridan Rd. in Peoria, IL. "My patients, my massage therapist (Leah England, LMT), and I all love the new office. It's larger, really pretty and much easier to find, being near such a visible intersection." Her office hours have stayed the same: M-W-F, 9am to 6pm, Thursday 2pm to 6pm and Saturdays as needed.
Leah England graduated from the Illinois Central College Massage Therapy program in 2008 and has been working for Schelly Chiropractic since 2009. Leah's style of massage is a combination of relaxation & therapeutic techniques. She specializes in deep tissue and Swedish massage. Her clients range from teenagers to senior citizens and every massage is designed to fit the needs of each individual.
"The value of having a chiropractor and massage therapist in the same office can't be overstated. Leah's work helps all of my treatments last longer." says Dr. Schelly.
